From Farm Fields to Floral Design - Our Roots
Our story begins with Paul Davis, who grew up in a family of farmers and greenhouse growers in Centerville, Indiana. After gaining hands-on experience in his family’s greenhouse business, Paul brought that knowledge of flowers & plants to Muncie in the 1940s.
He initially co-founded Davis Brothers Greenhouse with his brother Ernie, serving the community with fresh floral arrangements and plants. A few years later, Paul decided to branch out on his own, and on November 22, 1945, he opened Paul Davis Flower Shop at its current location on South Madison Street.
What started as a small neighborhood shop has grown into one of Muncie’s most trusted and enduring florists—still proudly family-owned and operated today.
Growing Up in the Business
One of our favorite memories captured in time is young Joe Davis, just 11 years old, delivering Easter flowers in a full bunny costume—a true example of growing up in the family business.
From a young age, Joe was immersed in every part of the shop: making deliveries, sweeping floors, and learning the art of floral design from his father, Paul. His childhood was shaped by the rhythms of the flower shop, and after proudly serving active duty in the United States Army, Joe returned to Muncie to dedicate himself fully to the family business.
By the mid-1990s, Joe had officially taken over as owner, bringing decades of experience, a certified Master Floral Designer accreditation, and a deep commitment to service. Under his leadership, the shop continued to thrive and grow—always with the same personal touch it began with.
New Generation - Same Values

Matt grew up in the heart of the shop—answering phones, sweeping up stems, and riding along for deliveries. After gaining valuable experience outside the floral industry in logistics and operations, he returned to the business in 2021 with a renewed passion and a broader perspective. Matt now holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, equipping him with the tools to build on the legacy while introducing thoughtful improvements.
Today, Matt manages day-to-day operations and is committed to honoring the values that have defined the shop since 1945: quality, honesty, and exceptional service. With his blend of tradition and innovation, he’s helping to ensure Paul Davis Flower Shop continues to serve the Muncie community for generations to come.
