Today, we celebrate the rich history and enduring legacy of Paul Davis Flower Shop, a cornerstone of the Muncie community for 80 years.
The Beginning:
Our story begins in Centerville, Indiana, where Paul Davis grew up working in the family’s small local greenhouse, "Davis Greenhouse." In his early 20s, Paul moved to Muncie, IN, to establish a new branch of the greenhouse. Initially running it solo, he was later joined by his brother Ernie, and together they renamed it "Davis Bros. Greenhouse." Eventually, Paul and Ernie pursued separate ventures.
The Founding of Paul Davis Flower Shop:
Paul opened the doors of Paul Davis Flower Shop at 2215 S. Madison Street in Muncie on November 22, 1945, which coincided with the first birthday of his only son, Joe Davis. Since that day, our shop has proudly served Muncie and the surrounding communities, including Yorktown, Selma, Cowan, Daleville, Eaton, and Albany.
Joe Davis’s Journey:
Joe Davis, the current owner, has been a part of the shop since his childhood. After graduating from Muncie Central High School in 1962, Joe attended East Tennessee State University before being drafted into the United States Army. He completed Officer Candidate School, became a commissioned officer, and served for 12 years, including active and inactive duty.
Returning to the family business after his military service, Joe learned the floral trade from the ground up. By the mid-1980s, he was managing the shop alongside his father. In 1998, Joe purchased the business from Paul, who then focused on his real estate ventures before retiring. Under Joe's leadership, Paul Davis Flower Shop continued to flourish, building on the solid foundation laid by his father.
A New Generation:
Today, the legacy of Paul Davis Flower Shop is being carried forward by Joe’s youngest son, Matt Davis. Like his father, Matt grew up helping around the shop. After graduating from Cowan High School in 2013, Matt explored opportunities in manufacturing, gaining valuable skills and experience.
At 30 years old, Matt has now fully dedicated himself to the family business. With a focus on improving customer satisfaction and streamlining operations, Matt aims to honor the legacy of his grandfather and father while bringing fresh perspectives to the shop.
